Inverness can be easily reached by car, train or plane. Overnight sleeper trains operate from London Euston Station, and there are regular daytime trains running between London - Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness every day. There are also daily flights to/from Inverness Airport where car rental is available if required.

Inverness is an ideal location from which to explore the magnificent castles and scenery of the Highlands. This vibrant city is host to many events throughout the year including music festivals and Celtic/Gaelic celebrations. Highland Games also take place in Inverness and in nearby towns during the summer months. Inverness has a wide selection of restaurants and cafes serving lunches and evening meals.

Close by is Loch Ness which can be reached either by coach, car or boat. Other popular local attractions include historic Culloden Battlefield and Fort George, legendary Cawdor and fairytale Brodie Castle.

Tartan-clad tour guide Cameron Ross of Happy Tours offers a historic walking tour of Inverness - look for him outside the tourist office. Distillery and castle tours around the Highlands by car can be booked in advance for up to 6 people.

Regular minibus tours by various local companies run throughout the summer season from outside the tourist office. These include Jacobite Loch Ness cruises and tours sailing throughout the year

Golfers have many courses to choose from including those at Inverness, Nairn, Dornoch and Skibo. There are also lots of opportunities for hill walking, horse riding, sailing and a variety of other activities in the local area.

Whatever length of time you plan to stay in the Highlands, you will leave with a list of places to visit or re-visit on your next trip!
