Viver watermill is a 13th century corn mill. The mill was working until 1950, when no fewer than 25 farmers used to bring corn to the mill. The watermill has been restored by the present owners and many of the original features have been restored. The grounds are 1.5 acres of mature garden, split into individual rooms and include a mature orchard. The focal points are the mill pond, the original mill race and the operational water wheel. Guests are encouraged to enjoy and relax in the garden, sit beside the mill pond, take a cream tea in the summer house, or sit on the elevated balcony overlooking the garden and take in the views of the countryside. Once inside the mill, you will appreciate the true character of the building, the mill,s roof features a rare triple crook roof construction, which proves the roof was thatched in medieval times. Most of the oak and cedar beams have been reclaimed from ships when Milnthorpe was once a port. The original oak grain sack hoist and pulley are still in place with 1 remaining mill stone on the floor below. Guests can take in all this history, sitting with a pot of tea, in front of the big roaring wood burning stove or enjoy a book from our library on the mazzanine gallery.
