The beautiful region of Northumberland has lots to offer, from long stretches of deserted sandy beaches to a plethora of historic castles and sites. The Sun Inn is reputed to be one of the oldest buildings in the popular seaside village of Alnmouth. It has been an Inn for as long as people can remember and its walls will no doubt carry secrets and stories, which only they can tell. Today, after a long period of refurbishment, Melanie and Brennan can offer you a comfortable base from which you can enjoy the delights of the heritage coastline, golf courses, cycle ways, walks and wide sandy beaches.
There is one large family room, and three generously sized double rooms, all en-suit. You can relax in our cosy bar, where you will be able to find local ales and a menu full of locally sourced dishes. Follow our special board as it goes through the seasons, with fresh fish caught that day available during the summer and various game dishes available through the cold winter months. During the winter you will be able to enjoy your food and drink in front of our large open log fire.
All of our accommodation is ideally suited as a base to explore the many sights & sounds of the region. Alnmouth is known for its large golf course overlooking a long stretch of sandy beach and estuary and a beautiful village full of gift shops and tea rooms. Within a few miles radius of the Inn is Alnwick Castle, recently made famous as the location for the Harry Potter films, and the newly opened ‘Alnwick Garden’ with its fascinating water features. Warkworth, Dunstanburgh and Bamburgh castles are all a short drive away and a little further lies Cradle of Christianity - Holy Island and the wildlife sanctuaries of the Farne Islands. Alnmouth has its own railway station on the East Coast Mainline, giving quick access to the busy shopping centres of Newcastle upon Tyne and Edinburgh.
