I can quite honestly say that this was the worst experience of a Bed and Breakfast I have ever had. As an experienced traveller, I have stayed in many B&B’s in many different places, but I have never come across owners as grossly incompetent, self-conflicting, aggressive, unreasonable and farcical as Dave and Jeff at the Devonia B&B in Bursledon.

I stayed with my partner and two friends. Our group consisted of three teachers and a financial advisor, all in our late twenties. Unfortunately, we were treated like young children, after Jeff took issue with the noise the bathroom doors apparently made when we were getting ready for bed around 12pm. We had returned from a family event for a friend’s 30th birthday. Jeff’s way of dealing with the situation involved walking into our room, whilst my partner was in bed, threatening myself and using profanities in order to attempt to intimidate us. This was all done in a very loud manner, which was ironic, considering he was concerned about noise. We were told to leave, but refused.

In the morning we asked for our money back. To be fair to Dave, he recognised that Jeff had acted in an out of control way and confronted him, which resulted in an awkward and embarrassing domestic argument between the two. Dave gave us some money back, but not enough.

On a more positive note, the rooms were nicely decorated.
