The Town House BB Guest House in Conwy Town
23 July 2012 by Landers
We stopped in Conwy and decided on a whim to stay the night. Knocked on the door and after a very friendly welcome were shown a vacant room right at the top of the house. Room was compact, comfortable, spotlessly clean with everything needed for a comfortable night. The breakfast was amazing, especially my fruit granola, highly recommended. The hosts couldnt have been friendlier. I would highly recommend this B&B. Wish we had stayed longer.
About Conwy Town
Conwy is one of only a few medieval walled towns in the UK, a world heritage site and stunningly placed just outside the Snowdonia National Park. An ideal spot to locate yourself when visiting North Wales, convenient for all the many attractions in the area.
Built by Edward 1st in an aborted effort to subdue the Welsh, Conwy is one of many English Castles in the area. Conwy also benefits from some beautiful and ancient buildings within the town, the best of these being Plas Mawr, which is a 15th century Merchants House and has been restored to exactly how it was when first built. You will not find a better example anywhere in the world, a truly magnificient building.
The oldest house in Conwy is Aberconwy House which is the only remaining 13th century house left in the town, now run by the National Trust and providing a real insight into how life was during the years when the Castle and walls where first built.
St Mary Church is in the centre of the town and a real focal point, originally here 100 years before the Castle and used by the Cistertion monks, but later sacked and demolished when the monks where moved out of the town by Edward. Only to be reinstated when the town required a place of worship.
Stroll along the newly refurbished quay and watch the visiting famillies fish for crabs, a pastime which is centuries old. Or vsit one of the many restaraunts and sample the Conwy mussells which are still fished for by several local famillies from the river Conwy, but remember there must be an R in the month!
