Berrow is a small village on the north west coast of Somerset. It sits between the tourist resorts of Burnham on Sea and Brean.
One of the great natural assets of this area is the 7 mile long sandy beach which can be easily reached either by a short walk through the dunes or by car. There are parking areas on the beach in Berrow and Brean and close to the beach in Burnham. Once on the beach there is plenty of room and visitors enjoy walking, playing cricket/football, horse riding, sand yachting, kite flying and in the warm weather paddling and swimming at high tide. The views over Bridgwater Bay to Wales and down to the Quantocks and Exmoor are spectacular on a clear day.
The Berrow dunes have 2 main points of interest. The Nature Reserve at the northern end of the village has a number of paths through it and plenty of signage telling you which animals, birds and plants to look out for. Burnham and Berrow Golf Course runs south from the Nature Reserve through the dunes into Burnham. The links golf course is well known and plays host to many national competitions as well as being open to visitors.
There are lots of wonderful and varied walks in the area. Brean Down is at the northern end of beach and sticks out into the Bristol Channel with an old Napoleonic/2nd World War fort to explore. Brent Knoll rise out of the levels to the east and has a fantastic ancient fort on the top and great views to Glastonbury to the east and over the sea to the west. 5 miles to the north is Uphill with walks around the Axe estuary and then up to a ruined windmill and church. A liitle bit further and you are into the Mendips, on the disused Strawberry line or in the Somerset Levels where there are many walks and lots of interesting flora, fauna and history.
There are lots of visitor attractions locally. Animal Farm in Berrow has lots of farm animals to visit and areas to play in. Brean Leisure Park has lots of exciting rides : Rollercoasters, log flume, dodgems, ghost train, laser quest etc. Within easy driving distance there is Cheddar Gorge and Caves, Weston super Mare and the new pier from July 2010, Wookey Hole, Wells Cathedral, Glastonbury Tor and many other places.
